Set in the leafy Lutyens’ enclave of central Delhi, Sunder Nagar weddings are vibrant, sprawling affairs that meld tradition with the subtle hustle of city life. We have photographed dozens of ceremonies here and in nearby neighborhoods such as Khan Market, Golf Links, Jor Bagh, Lodhi Estate and Chanakyapuri. An evening here is often marked by the lighting of venue lights, soft music floating across decorated lawns and brides taking a quiet last breath before joining in the celebrations, while family members rush through last-minute arrangements. Amid the structured chaos -- make-up an hour late, baraat traffic crawling down Rajiv Chowk, anxious parents holding back tears -- my team quietly finds the real moments. We’ve learned that no wedding day in Sunder Nagar goes exactly to plan, so we build in buffers (often doubling the travel time, as guides recommend) and remain calm when the baraat gets delayed by dancing cousins or potholes.
Each neighborhood celebration has its own flair. Punjabi, Hindu marriage halls, hotels in Defence Colony or Chanakyapuri, the dhol is cranked up from the minute the groom’s ghodi arrives, and cousins spill out of Lexus SUVs to break into bhangra right on the street. NRI couples from the nearby diplomatic circles might get married under a canopy of twinkling lights in a five-star ballroom (such as The Ashok or ITC Maurya) after a morning ceremony at a local gurudwara. Whatever the style, there’s always a colorful rush. Uncles honking horns in the baraat procession, chandelier-lit halls heating up when the DJ blasts high-beam lasers, kids darting onto the stage for candy, elderly relatives sharing quiet moments over steaming chai. Indeed, as one timeline guide puts it, wedding days “move differently”—to expect the makeup artist to be finished by 4 pm is optimistic; more often we pad an extra hour for bridal prep because “the ‘Makeup Delay’ is…almost a tradition at this point." Likewise, a baraat that should last 45 minutes can easily be stretched to two hours with all the festive dancing. We’re ready for it—we usually tell couples that a tight schedule just means we’ll be focusing on which moments to capture rather than trying to rigidly adhere to a clock.
Venues in Sunder Nagar are mostly high-end indoor banquets or luxury hotels—open lawns are a rarity in the heart of Delhi. Popular addresses include ITC Maurya (50–800 guests) and The Ashok (30–2000 guests) in Chanakyapuri, as well as modern halls in Khan Market or Lodhi Road. Weddings are no joke here. The family elders direct the line-ups of the relatives for the portraits; the mothers fuss over the draping of the lehengas, and fathers may even double-check the lighting setup. Through it all, we just smile and step in to help maneuver equipment over bumps or flag down security for space. These struggles are not anomalies. They are part of the day, and we know how to adapt on the fly.
We offer a full wedding experience, but not in a brochure-bullet way. Imagine your day with us:
Wedding Photography: We start from the moment you wake up (or even before): gathering candid shots of henna-adorned hands and excited eyes in the makeup room, then seamlessly moving to the pheras, hugging ceremony, and reception dances. You’ll notice how we gently guide the big group photos (almost like a friend arranging your family on the stage), yet we stay back for the emotional exchanges. During the sangeet, we whirl through the party, capturing dance-offs and toasts without interrupting the flow. You won’t hear us say “smile now!” – instead you’ll see us encouraging spontaneous joy.
Cinematic Films: As the photographer snaps stills, our videographer is quietly filming, stitching together a highlight reel of your day. In your experience, this feels like a mini-movie: we might suggest spending two minutes after dinner for a couple shot with a gimbal or gently cue you to say a few heartfelt words during dinner that we secretly record as interview audio. The final wedding film teaser—usually 5 to 8 minutes – is told through the lens of your genuine smiles and tears. We deliver it with soft background music, and you’ll see a narrative arch (proposal story, haldi dance, pheras, first dance) that feels like your wedding day supercut.
Destination Weddings: If your families live abroad or you just love travel, we can accompany you anywhere – as far as Jaisalmer’s sand dunes or a Goa beach. For example, an NRI couple once had their reception at a heritage farm just outside Delhi – we flew out the morning after the ceremony and captured their baraat arriving through the fog. Our experience means we handle hotel logistics, daylight differences, even customs logistics for equipment. Couples who have taken us on destination weddings often tell us later that hiring one team who already knew each other’s style made the whole trip less stressful.
We focus on your comfort throughout all of these services, bringing chai and snacks to prep rooms so you aren’t catching your breath for photos. And we keep you updated. Usually we meet beforehand (sometimes by WhatsApp video) to understand your vision, are you minimal and intimate or a full on Punjabi extravaganza. And then we customize our day-of plan. At the end of the day, you feel like you have your own crew. You tell your wedding story and then we tell it with cameras. You hardly notice us in the middle of the celebrations.
Sunder Nagar sits in a crossroads of Delhi’s most affluent areas, so wedding styles here are a fusion of tradition and trend. Hindu and Punjabi weddings reign supreme: expect a jugalbandi of vigorous dhols and shouts of “Balle Balle!” with plates of butter chicken and naan on standby. In a typical Punjabi baraat parade from Golf Links through Lodhi Road, I’ll see red turbans bobbing and horses rearing, then realize the ceremony is starting 30 minutes late – again – because of extra rounds of ghodi jokes. In a big fat Hindu or Punjabi wedding, every cousin has to get on the dance floor; it’s well-known that if the planning doesn’t account for the “enthusiasm” of your cousins, dinner and pheras can slide into late night. So by default, we expect that shaadi jitters and delays will come. We often reassure couples: “No worries, we’ve seen bigger slips." Let’s just make those moments count when we can.
NRI and cosmopolitan Delhi couples often blend rituals. For example, I’ve shot ceremonies where the morning follows Sikh pheras in a gurdwara, and the evening reception is at a five-star hotel, Delhi Golf Club (Lutyens’ Delhi). Modern families might skip a half-day of rituals and pack everything into 10–12 hours, and they like us to be very hands-on but also easygoing. By contrast, more traditional families (especially older Punjabis) bring 150–200 guests, ten generations of uncles and aunties. In such chaos, we focus on subtle cues: catching the tear in the mother’s eye as the bride walks down the aisle or the relieved smile of a dad when the bidaai finally happens.
Part of the local charm is the venue decor trends: banquets in Sunder Nagar and nearby areas often favor grand floral installations and crystal chandeliers. Portrait spots might be under a pergola of fairy lights or next to the venue’s entry sign. In Defence Colony, for example, Diadem Banquets often has a flowery mandap off to the side – we always scout it early to see how the stage lights hit. In historic Lutyens’ Delhi areas like Shantiniketan or near Pragati Maidan, it’s common to find a stately door frame or colonial arch. We use these as impromptu backdrops. As one account of the Delhi Golf Club notes, it’s “surrounded by the Lodhi Gardens, the Zoo and a few minutes from the India Gate” – truly the heart of Lutyens’ Delhi. While the club itself is rarely a wedding venue, its lawns are like a secret portrait studio at dawn, so we once convinced a couple to sneak a few shots there before their baraat started.
A landmark of the diplomatic enclave in Chanakyapuri, The Ashok can cater to anything from an intimate dinner to 2000+ guests. Photography-wise, The Ashok is a mixture of Old World and grandeur. Entry portraits are often staged here on the stone terrace outside the foyer, framed by royal urns and tropical plants. The main ballroom inside is enormous, but it has warm golden chandeliers, so we usually shoot wide to get the ambiance and then tighter for details. Portrait opportunities: The regal couple shots at dusk can be taken on the lush lawn with a fountain just outside or on the long colonnade inside with pretty morning light filtering through. Stage lighting at The Ashok can be tricky—they love bold color washes (reds and blues)—so we often dial in camera settings to not be overwhelmed, or we use a subtle flash to neutralize the tint. The halls are so big that it’s actually easier to manage the flow of people. We send people to little alcoves on the side for smaller group shots, which prevents them from all piling on the main stage at the same time. The ideal time for portraits here is usually late afternoon on the terrace, just before sunset, when the fountains are running and the marble glows.
Right across from The Ashok is the upscale ITC Maurya. It’s elegant and air-conditioned, with polished stone halls and one of Delhi’s prettiest green lawns. The reserved lawn (“Mughal Garden”) is a true gem if you have permission—we've snagged sunset portraits behind the Yamuna fishpond once. Indoors, the Lalit Keshav Hall is a popular banquet space: it’s brightly lit by massive crystal fixtures, so flash is rarely needed for group shots up front. We love shooting portraits at Maurya’s lobby staircase or in the Mughal Garden Lobby; the velvet decor and brass accents feel rich and traditional. For entry shots, the grand driveway loop is good—although with diplomatic traffic, cars might actually roll in late, so we scout alternate spots like the nearby lotus pond for candid captures. Stage lighting here tends to be subtle amber; we adjust white balance to keep skin tones natural. One practical note: the Maurya staff are efficient with VIP traffic (its clientele is often from embassies), so coordinating with them early helps us avoid security holdups.
The newer ballroom at The Leela has draped chandeliers and high ceilings—it's more modern than The Ashok, almost hotel-like. The foyer is a gorgeous polished floor and sweeping staircase, a favorite for pre-ceremony portraits for its art deco feel. The palm-tree-lined oasis poolside of The Leela is perfect for an evening shot of the couple in silhouette outside. Ceremony & reception lighting is usually sharp. We have found that they tend to keep the stage in a warm white, so it’s easy to get the vows without color fringing. At The Leela, we usually do couple photos soon after the pheras, in the nearby gardens or even the hotel corridors—the glass and wood make for flattering reflections.
A modern, low-rise complex of concrete and wood, the Habitat Centre has a very different vibe. Its halls (like Veer & Fu) have high ceilings and large wooden panels, which require a slower shutter if we want the warm glow of the wood to show. However, the corridors are lined with glass windows, so during the day we position couples in beam shafts of sunlight for artsy portraits. They also have an open amphitheater-style lawn outside which, if available, is a photographer’s dream at sunset—natural light with an open sky. Entry shots usually happen in the timber-lined lobby, where we can bounce flash off the ceiling for flattering group photos. This venue tends to have more relaxed acoustics (less echo than a hotel ballroom), so capturing audio for films is easier too.
Not your traditional banquet hall, but we are including it because it is practically in Sunder Nagar's backyard and loved by locals. The Delhi Golf Club is “the heart of Delhi” with Lodhi Gardens and monuments nearby. We've only shot here at dawn or for thematic pre-weddings, but it's worth mentioning. If your family can get access, the wide green fairways make a stunning, foggy background at sunrise. The red sandstone gates and the old peacocks straying at dawn have an ageless quality. It doesn’t have actual wedding ceremonies, of course, but we love sneaking away for a quick portrait session here after a lodge-style baraat at Delhi Gymkhana (or any morning mandap). It’s an iconic place for photos with a very Delhi vibe.
A modern banquet hall popular with Defence Colony residents, Diadem has a long stage and a mirrored back wall. Photographically, it means we often shoot from the side to avoid too much flash reflection. Portrait opportunities are a bit limited—the foyer by the main door has low light—so we suggest couples do any quiet photo moments in nearby parks (Defence Colony Park is close by). Inside, the giant crystal chandelier is eye-catching, and we sometimes ask guests to pose under it for a ‘just married’ shot. The stage lighting here usually cycles through colors during the sangeet, which means we constantly tweak for skin tones. Handling crowds: since the hall is a bit narrower, we group people on the stage in shifts, bringing in a few family members at a time while others stretch their legs.
A classic colonial-style venue, Gymkhana Club has sprawling lawns and a colonial hall with wooden beams. For portraits, the lush lawn in front—with India Gate glimpses—is unbeatable on a winter afternoon (if the sun ever shines!). Indoors, the Astroturf billiards room and library are off-limits, but the Member’s Lounge is a good spot for small group shots; its portraits on the wall add character to photos. Stage setup here is very traditional (no neon), so we usually just open up the hall lights and rely on soft flash. The best time to arrive for portraits is in the morning, before the gym members occupy the courts; we recall sneaking a “first look” shot by one of the tennis courts with sparrows fluttering by—absolutely magical.
Couples in Sunder Nagar have repeatedly told us they trust our team because we stay calm and invisible. We aren’t grabbing anyone’s phone to direct selfies; we ask politely if we can borrow a relative’s arm for a wide shot. During portraits, we chat with tired dads or explain a pose gently to the shy groom so it feels easy, not forced. This respectful manner – not bossing people around – earns instant goodwill. Our clients often say they felt more like we were “part of the family” than hired vendors.
Behind the lens, our editing style is similarly natural. We avoid over-the-top filters. Instead, we aim for consistency: soft whites, warm skin tones, just a touch of clarity. We’ll ask early on if you prefer a certain look; for example, one couple requested truly unedited raw files to feel authentic, and we delivered that. They told us later that seeing those natural colors and genuine laughs in print was worth every rupee. We also prioritize quick coordination: someone texts us last minute, “Please add Grandpa in that photo,” and we find him among the milling relatives before going to print. In fact, it’s practically a photographer’s mantra that assigning one family member to help gather groups works wonders. We take that advice to heart – often leaning in to a cousin or family friend, quietly explaining who’s next, so the flow never stops.
Finally, we handle pressure professionally. If the baraat’s late or a ceremony overruns, we don’t fluster. We might skip framing a decor shot to make sure we catch the bride’s dance circles instead, prioritizing what really matters. At one wedding in Golf Links, a power outage delayed the pheras by 20 minutes. Instead of panicking, we simply rearranged our lighting plan and focused on capturing the couple’s first rites by candlelight, which turned out to be some of their favorite images. Clients trust us because even under stress, we keep their story at the center – not just the hour-by-hour schedule.
How does pricing typically work, and what can we expect to pay for a wedding in Sunder Nagar or nearby?Every wedding is unique, so we offer packages that include hours of coverage, albums, and film. A typical full-day Punjabi wedding in Delhi would have mid-range packages starting at around ₹1.5-2.5 lakhs (including edited photos and a highlights video). Luxury packages for NRI weddings or multiple-day events can be even higher. We are always happy to discuss a custom quote once we know your exact needs (number of days, guests, and any extra services such as drone footage). Here's how to think about it: our goal is to align your budget with the right amount of coverage, so we typically recommend ways to spend your budget wisely (for example, spending more on capturing key ceremonies rather than printing every single photo).
How long will it take to receive our wedding photos and videos?
We edit photos quite quickly, given the volume. You’ll usually get a link to a private online gallery within 2–3 weeks after the wedding (often even sooner if it’s a low-key event). A highlight film draft can also be ready around the 3–4 week mark, with the final edits (including any song replacements you request) delivered within a week after that. – just let us know.
Can you handle family photos efficiently? We have a huge family.
Absolutely. We actually prefer having one responsible person from each side (often suggested in planning), but if not, we’ll bring it up politely to a family elder at the reception. Often, one grandparent or cousin is briefed to assemble relatives into groups. We give clear but gentle cues so families know how to line up: This way the couple isn’t stranded on stage for hours. In practice, big extended families usually finish the group photos in 30–40 minutes, especially once we put on some upbeat music and have parents smile at their grandchildren from a safe distance.
We want mostly candid and fun shots, but our parents are insisting on formal portraits too. How do you balance that?
We do both! Early on, we’ll schedule time for the “essential formal” shots your parents want (couple in front of the altar, family with the couple, all siblings, etc.). We handle these quickly and efficiently, so they don’t cut into party time. The rest of the day, we shoot unobtrusively – letting moments unfold naturally. You’ll see us capturing hugging relatives or your true laughter without pausing the music or asking you to pose constantly. Many couples say they barely noticed the camera during their sangeet – that’s because we focus on natural coverage and only step in when something photo-worthy happens.
How long do you stay at the wedding?
Typically, we cover from pre-ceremony preparations right up to the main reception (or vidai). That usually means 10–12 hours on a full wedding day. If you have a multi-day event (like separate ceremonies), we can do partial days or full coverage on all days as needed. Each package lists hours, but we’re always flexible – if the baraat ran late and you want us for the first hour of the reception too, we do our best to accommodate.
We have events at multiple venues (e.g. morning mandir, evening hotel). Do you travel between them?
Yes, we happily do multi-venue days. It’s quite common here: for instance, a morning pooja in Nizamuddin West and a late afternoon reception in Chanakyapuri. We plan it out so the team knows the locations; often, one shooter can do the mandir and drive with the couple to the next, while the second sets up at the hotel early. Travel time is always factored in (we generally recommend treating any Delhi transfer as 1.5× the Google estimate). So no worries – you won’t lose coverage because of distance.
How do we keep communicating as the big day approaches?
We try to be available via WhatsApp or phone. Often we’ll video-chat to go over your schedule or walk the venue (even virtually) a week before. On the day of your wedding, our lead photographer is reachable by phone for any quick heads-ups (e.g. if a ceremony time shifts by 15 minutes, text us and we’ll adjust the next thing accordingly). We pride ourselves on politeness and prompt replies – if you have one concern or question about lighting, outfit change, or just panic texting, we respond quickly.
All weddings in Sunder Nagar are special, and we would love to hear about yours. Send us a message on WhatsApp or give us a quick call at 9560114449 to check if we are free on your date. We’d love to meet in person to discuss your vision and answer any questions you may have. Be it a quiet family mandap at Shantiniketan or a three-day Punjabi extravaganza, we promise to listen to what you value the most and make it happen calmly. “We really want to tell your story, not just check the box.”
