CP isn’t just a location. It’s a mixed bag of the old culture of delhi with a sprinkle of modernity. Upasna Studio Photography has done multiple wedding shoots in and around CP and hence knows the place well. The beauty of the white colonnade of colonial-era buildings is illuminated in the early morning sun with a golden hue, while the night is illuminated by lights and lanterns to give a cozy and luxurious look. The couples at CP may not be following the western culture necessarily, but they are cosmopolitan in their thinking as you will find Punjabi drums alongside businessmen in business suits.
Punjabi-Hindu style merged with urbane one in Central Delhi weddings. One will be able to witness all the characteristics of the traditional Punjabi celebration – a procession accompanied with music provided by dhol drum, bhangra dancers, grooms wearing sehra turban and so on, though not always in such an extent as it can happen in small towns, there being less limititations. Some Punjabi families even walk right through the commercial part of the city. Some choose to use decorated SUVs, as Delhi police may deny permission for horses or any such entertainment on a busy street like Janpath.
Wedding Photography: You’ll find our cameras at every significant juncture – from the bride’s morning makeup in Lutyens’ quarters to the final dance under glittering party lights. We spend the first hour with the bride’s family capturing joyful chaos as everyone gets ready, then slip into the ceremony without disturbing a single ritual. Our coverage is full-day: pre-ceremony jitters, all the way through emotional farewells at night. Every couple experiences our balanced approach: we announce a big family photo once or twice, but most of the time we work in the background, letting people be themselves. Afterward, our clients often comment how they barely knew we were there – yet years later, they see we captured everything.
Cinematic Films: Our film crews move like spectators in the room. During a baraat, one of us grabs the drum corner for ambient audio, while another frames the procession. We rarely use heavy lighting for film; instead, we use shoulder rigs and frame-stabilizers that let us roam free in a banquet hall, farm house, or a gurdwara. The result is a film where you feel present in the moment – the couple’s vows, the laughter of siblings, and even the soft overhead music at the reception all become part of the narrative. Many couples praise how “cinematic” yet natural our highlights feel. For example, we might start a teaser with the groom buttoning his sherwani, move to the bride’s last makeup touch-up, then the quick shot of henna being applied – like a short movie trailer of the day.
Bridal Portraits: For many brides in Delhi, the day-of portraits at the hotel or venue are as important as the ceremony photos. We usually schedule a 15–20 minute slot right after the bride’s look is complete. Often this happens in the suite’s balcony or hallway, where the morning or evening light is gentlest. We subtly direct the bride to find her best angles (everyone’s face and outfit falls differently under soft light), while also capturing candid touches like a father adjusting his daughter’s dupatta. These portraits are never stiff – we use any fan or breeze to our advantage, catching the movement in the veil or dupatta. Afterward, couples have expressed that these quiet moments, just the two of them with the camera, were their favorite – a calm pause before the whirlwind of the ceremony.
Destination Weddings: We also travel for special weddings. Be it a royal palace in Rajasthan or a beachfront resort, our approach stays the same: local and personal. For example, at an Armenian ceremony in Goa, we still held the bride’s hand to steady her during a breezy vow, just like we would in Delhi. When shooting in new places, we still ask the same questions: “Where’s the best light?”, “Where can we make a quick 5-minute shoot apart from the group?” That consistency means our couples get the same intimate, honest style even at faraway venues.
Across all these services, the thread is the same: we give you an experience of being photographed, not just a photographer showing up.
The star of the show at this palace-like hotel in the diplomatic enclave is its architecture. Portraits are framed by regal backgrounds of lofty ceilings, arches, and grand light fixtures. Sunset couple photos are beautiful in the soft glow of the palace terrace and well-maintained Mughal gardens. The ballrooms inside (Royal Ballroom and Grand Ballroom) have alabaster walls with subtle backlighting that glows even in dim light. But stage lighting can be a cool blue or magenta, so we balance it with color filters on our flashes. We usually shoot the sweeping staircase or the ornate foyer with its patterned red carpet to get people coming in. The big halls of the Leela fill up slowly so group photos are unhurried. We line up relatives on the terrazzo steps, on the long corridors, where golden light spills in through high windows. There is lots of parking and if the baraat comes through the hotel driveway we can take pictures of the groom's car rolling up next to the staff in the background uniforms. One thing to note is that the adjacent Drover’s Lane is congested and hence baraat timings often get delayed by 15-20 minutes. We tell couples, “Don’t worry about the ETA of the cab, we’ll hang out in the lounge snapping candids till everyone’s ready.
Old-world elegance. The Taj Palace. It has two grand ballrooms (Shahjahan and Durbar Hall) with a capacity of hundreds each and the lawns outside (Raja Bagh and Rani Bagh) can house up to 800 guests. Here our favorite time for portraits is just before sunset on the lush green lawns – the light through the trees gives a soft golden glow on the couple. The Mughal-inspired interiors (domes and carved panels) look magical when the light from DIY lanterns or diyas is less. We usually shoot a quick portrait behind the stage curtains where the patterned shadows fall. The LED lights in the ceiling flash red or green during dances. We compensate by popping a soft flash or zooming wide to include the drifting haze. Because bride entrances often take place under the mirror dome outside, we work with staff to cue a shaft of light for that dramatic aisle-walk shot. The Taj is in the middle of things so it is a busy area but they have a large parking garage. By default the venue is pretty insistent on using their own decorators and DJs so we plan angles around standard decor – we don’t ask for changes we just work the red-carpet and floral pillars into our compositions. Many couples rave about the Taj’s hospitality, but behind the scenes we quietly manage the busyness. When a relative might call out, “Wait, we need group photo!”, we calmly gather families off-stage for five-minute portrait bursts, and ease them back to the party before they even notice.
The intimacy of this heritage hotel. The gardens are small but lovely, and a glassed courtyard with fountains is great for pre-ceremony candid shots. The interior lighting in the ballroom is more yellow and amber, giving a warm glow for portraits but making faces in corners look dark. We normally use small LED panels for adding soft fill light, particularly for emotional shots during the pheras. The tall Ionic columns of the lobby and its black-and-white checkerboard floor provide a distinctive backdrop for portraits. The light of the golden hour streaming in through the entrance veranda is often used – we once timed a bride’s ring ceremony so that the sunbeam hit the antique mirror behind her, creating a halo effect. The disadvantages are a lower ceiling and frequent backlighting. At the reception the couples often walk in through big wooden doors that they push open; we’re ready to go with backlight on so we can get a dreamy entrance silhouette before the ambient lights turn purple DJ beams. We suggest couples do a quick exit/re-entry of the dance floor for a couple’s spotlight shot mid-party, since by 10pm The Imperial’s ceiling lights are usually dimmed (for dancing) and pictures turn grainy.
We often use the grand driveway and/or entrance pillars of this historic hotel (once The Ashok), a landmark, for dramatic car-arrivals. Inside, the large, white-pillared lobby and wide staircases provide plenty of photogenic nooks. The Mantra banquet hall overlooks Delhi’s Jantar Mantar observatory and we sometimes sneak the couple out on to the terrace during daylight to capture the cityscape behind them. Globe chandeliers and concealed LED strips lend a festive air to the hall itself, but can bleach out color. The uplights in the Mantra stage podium are great for warming up everyone’s faces for group photos. The groom’s barat at Shangri-La often blasts Punjabi hits as soon as they enter; we sometimes have to lower our frame rate to avoid red-eye in video, because the DJ lights flash rapidly. The wedding lunch or dinner in the sunlit gardens of Shangri-La is beautiful – golden hour on those lawns makes for painterly family portraits. One practical tip is to allow the bridal party extra transit time from their rooms to the banquet. The hotel is on a busy road and you might hit some traffic jams in the afternoon.
There are 3 ballrooms (Mantra, Yantra-I, Yantra-II) with floor-to-ceiling windows and a Jantar Mantar view at the Park. For daytime weddings, the halls “shine beautifully in natural daylight,” and we use that as the key light for group rituals, keeping our subjects near the window edges. The rooftop pool area (Bling Courtyard) is an unexpected hit for couple portraits; at twilight the pool lights create a moody glow against the sky. The ceilings in the park's halls are fitted with hidden LEDs that change color when we’re inside at night. We pre-shoot a test earlier in the day to see how the lighting shifts so we know exactly where to stand when the family arrives. One challenge: The DJ booth at the park can boom with bass and laser shows, making it hard to get clean shots of dancing. To fight this, we try to sometimes shoot from the balcony looking down at the dance floor, capturing the energy of the crowd from above. The Park’s intimate pre-function lounges (such as the circular Allure lounge with green walls and a deck) also make for good waiting-room candids. The park is small, and everyone from all events often crosses paths in the lobby—bride and groom sometimes see each other early, or family members bump into each other unexpectedly. We’ve learned to be alert for those chance reactions—such as a father spotting his son-in-law in the corridor for the first time.
The Radisson Blu Marina (Connaught Circus) boasts a rooftop pool with fantastic views of the city, ideal for sunrise couple shoots or late-night portraits with city lights in the background. Warm wood lines the inside of the ballroom, decorated with gold draperies. Their suites have large windows that cast flattering light for bridal prep in the morning so we schedule the portrait session just after makeup when everyone still looks fresh. In the big banquet, the stage lighting is often blue or magenta and we gel our flash to warm those tones up. The entryway has a series of tall arches and pillars along the front driveway – we often shoot the couple’s arrival on those steps with lens flare from street-lights. One thing: Parking at the Radisson is shared with offices nearby so finding a spot on time can be a bit tricky. We always check with hotel security beforehand to reserve a spot for the bridal car.
Le Meridien (Lodi Road) A contemporary property with smart ballrooms. The main ballroom (Sovereign) has alabaster walls and is divisible into two for smaller ceremonies. The foyer has high, arched ceilings and a grand staircase that is lit up with spotlights – we often use that staircase for a dramatic shot of the bride coming down, each step lit underfoot. Their décor is mostly neutral (white and gray) so we bring in bold colors through our frames – for example, if the bride’s lehenga is red, we might use the all-white backdrop to make it pop. The outdoor terrace (Allure lounge) has lush green accents and is perfect for cocktail hour shootouts, we use the ambient light to silhouette couples at dusk. Le Méridien is on an internal road, so traffic isn’t bad, but the wide entrance pillars mean the baraat sometimes pauses awkwardly there; we usually drag a wide-angle lens to get the full scene including family members jumping in joy.
Rivaayat is a neighbourhood banquet hall famous for its flamboyant decor. The hall itself is big and is often decorated with bright drapes and flowers. Our job is to work with the flamboyant stage there. For example, if the stage has heavy LED backdrops, we adjust our exposure to not blow out the couple’s faces. We often find little corners for portrait breaks, like outside, a decorated gateway or garden wall. Big Punjabi families (who love Rivaayat for its central location) bring in a lot of hustle to Defence Colony – if baraat gets stuck in Defence Colony traffic on Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg, we hang out at a side café, capturing the photographer selfies of teen cousins and aunties fixing sarees. There’s one rule here. Kids love Rivaayat’s lobby fountain, and we always try to get a playful shot of the bride and her young cousins running through the water for luck.
Couples tell us they feel comfortable with our calm presence. We never shout instructions; instead, one gentle direction is usually enough to capture a natural expression. When guests are distracted by Uncle’s jokes or the fragrance of shahi pulao, we quietly adjust our settings or move to a better angle. Our team remains polite and unintrusive – parents often mention how our smiling faces at the door were the least stressful part of the wedding. For instance, one bride later recalled how she barely noticed us filming during her pheras, but when she saw her wedding film, she was amazed at how every tiny laughter and tear was preserved.
Our editing style reflects real emotions. We don’t oversaturate colors or add fake sun flares. Instead, we let the reds of the lehenga, the gold of the decor, and the true skin tones tell the story. Many urban couples appreciate our ‘true-to-life’ approach: one NRI family told us that our photos in the foggy Delhi dusk looked more like paintings than movies, because we trusted the natural light and captured it faithfully.
Being local experts, we understand Delhi venues. We know exactly how to navigate guests through The Leela’s palace corridors or where to park vans at the Imperial. When a family organizer comes to us with a last-minute request, they find us ready with solutions: “Stage lights are too blue? We’ll warm them up with on-camera gels,” or “The baraat got stuck at GH Embassy Road? We’ll start portraits on the lawn and bring the couple to the rest of the ceremony in time.” This professional composure – combined with knowing the family dynamics (which siblings take charge of decor, which uncle loves spotlight dancing) – means couples relax. One family shared they trusted us because we treated their wedding day “like our own”: never pushing products, always listening to their vision, and even gently soothing a teary mother who realized the evening rituals were going late.
Years of covering have taught us that the thing that really earns trust isn’t fancy camera gear but emotional intelligence. We recognize when the baraat is too loud and we hold back or when a quiet moment calls for our focus. We see when the bride needs reassurance (a thumb up behind her mother’s sari or a text saying “You look beautiful”) so that by the time we capture her bridal portrait, she’s completely at ease. In simple terms, couples trust us because they don’t see us as strangers with cameras, they see us as team members of their wedding, there to support and document authentically.
How do you price your services for a Connaught Place or nearby wedding? We work on packages based on the wedding schedule and needs. For example, a full-day coverage (pre-wedding portraits, wedding, reception) typically starts at ₹150,000 in Delhi NCR, though exact pricing depends on factors like number of photographers and hours. We encourage couples to discuss budget openly so we can customize – one family once had a tight day schedule, so we offered a half-day rate focusing on ceremony and reception, while still giving quality coverage.
Which months are best for a wedding in Delhi? Delhi weddings traditionally peak in winter (November through February) because the weather is pleasant. You avoid the summer heat and monsoon, and evenings can be cool. However, winters bring challenges like early sunsets and occasional fog. We prepare for winter by packing extra lights and warmers for batteries. For off-season weddings (spring or late October), morning shoots can be perfect – the light is soft by 5pm then, so we often recommend holding the ceremony a bit earlier to catch that glow.
How do you make couples comfortable, especially if they’re camera-shy? We spend the first minutes chatting and laughing with couples, often doing a quick 30-second test shot with no pressure. We give simple prompts like “walk towards me holding hands” during a portraits session, and quietly capture them talking. One trick: during the baraat procession, we tell the couple a light-hearted story through earphones so they smile in candid moments. That strategy worked for a bride who later said she never noticed the cameras because she was busy laughing at our on-ear comments.
How long after the wedding do we get our photos and film? We typically deliver wedding galleries within 2–3 weeks and highlight films in about 6–8 weeks. During peak season that can stretch a bit. We send a sneak-peek slideshow on WhatsApp within a week as a teaser. All images are fully edited (we correct colors, retouch subtly for skin, remove minor distractions). We also include a written note or guide to help you relive the day.
We want both candid and formal photos. How do you balance that? We believe both styles complement each other. We plan discreet shooters during rituals and parties to capture true emotions without interrupting. Whenever someone is getting emotional (like the father hugging the couple), we’re already focused on them. Then we alternate with gentle prompts for formals. For example, after the first pheras, we might step aside and say “Take a deep breath, smile at each other”, getting a quick posed shot. Couples often say our approach feels “natural”; they still get those classic portraits but mostly feel like we were just flies on the wall for everything else.
How long is the cinematic wedding film you deliver? Our highlight films are usually 6–10 minutes, focused on storytelling (so not raw ceremony footage). Many couples also get a longer 20–40 minute “feature film” version that covers all main events in full. It’s your choice. Several South Asian families love a minute-by-minute timeline video; others just want a short trailer to share online. We have both options and will guide you on which fits your day best.
We’d love to hear about your wedding plans. Message us on WhatsApp or call to share your vision – your colors, your themes, the emotions you’re hoping to capture. We’ll promptly check our availability and suggest ideas, whether it’s local Central Delhi shots or a destination celebration. Every couple is different: if you prefer a quick phone call over coffee at Khan Market or a long email talking about details, we’ll do what feels comfortable. Your wedding day memories deserve a calm, friendly team. So let’s connect and start planning how to tell your story at Connaught Place and beyond.
